The Guinness World Records' record for the Oldest married couple, aggregate age, was set by Karl Dølven (Norway, b. 31 August 1897) married Gudrun Haug (Norway, b. 14 October 1900) at Hole, Norway, on 4 June 1927. They remained married until Gudrun's death on 24 April 2004. At this time Gudrun was aged 103 years 193 days and Karl was 106 years 237 days - an aggregate age of 210 years 65 days .

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Longest marriage was set by Herbert Fisher (USA, b. 10 June 1905, d. 27 February 2011) and Zelmyra Fisher (USA, b. 10 December 1907, d. 20 February 2013), who were married on 13 May 1924 in North Carolina, USA. They had been married 86 years, 290 days as of 27 February 2011, when Mr Fisher passed away.

George Kirby and Doreen Luckie hit the headlines across the globe when they married at the Langham Hotel, Eastbourne, in June this year on George's 103rd birthday.

The couple beat the previous record which was held by François Fernandez - born in France in 1906 - and Madeleine Francineau - born in 1907 also in France - who married at the age of 95 years 290 days, and 94 years 201 days respectively. The combined age between the couple at the time of their wedding was a record 190 years 126 days.

Proud groom George Kirby, 103, described how he proposed to his new bride Doreen Luckie, 91, on Valentine's Day. Remembering the moment he asked the new Mrs Kirby to be his wife, he said: "I didn't get down on one knee, because I don't think I would have been able to get back up."

The newlyweds have seven children, 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren between them and, on the day their record was announced, the first child of Mr Kirby's grandson was born who was named George after his record-breaking great-grandfather.

Most Bridal Bouquets Caught

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, USA -- A Utah woman says she has smashed the Guinness World Records world record for catching bridal bouquets at weddings and now is seeking recognition for it; Salt Lake City's Jamie Jackson has caught 46 bouquets since 1996 and has the documentation to prove it, setting the new world record for the Most bridal bouquets caught, according to the World Record Academy:

Jamie Jackson is a personal trainer and a professional bridal bouquet catcher. She has caught so many bouquets that she is now trying to claim a World Record for most bridal bouquets caught. The 37-year-old Salt Lake City, Utah, woman has been to more than 80 weddings, catching the bridal bouquet a record 46 times, edging out other single women in the room like a defensive back intercepting a touchdown pas. The Guinness World Records' record for the Most bridal bouquets caught was set by Stephanie Monyak, a registered nurse from Pennsylvania, USA, who has caught a total of 11 bridal bouquets that were tossed at weddings she has attended since 1983.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest bridal wedding veil; it is 4,686 m (15,373 ft 11.82 in) long, and was made by Rozana Hospitality (UAE), it was presented at the opening of the Perfect Wedding Show, at Sharjah Expo Center, in Sharjah, UAE, on 6 March 2014.

Jackson said she has attended as many as 100 weddings over the years because of her family's connections to musical theater and their church. She jokes that what started out as a hobby has turned into "her sport."

"It is something that you have to plan for and you have to be very strategic where you place yourself," she told KSL.
"My strategy is to be right up in the front because a lot of time the brides don't know how far they are going to throw it.
"A lot of times it will hit a ceiling, it'll hit a chandelier ... I've had many, many catches where I've had to jump for it. And I've hit little kids by accident."

She said she was happy to learn 44 of the 46 brides were still married. "I consider myself a good luck charm," she said.

Jackson has dispelled the myth that a woman who catches a bouquet will be the next to get married.    She said some people joke that she's purposely staying single to catch more bouquets, but she assures them that is not the case. "It's just been a fun process over the years," she said.

Organizers of the "Bride Parade" said they intend to promote marriage as a way of maintaining traditional family values in this Orthodox country.

The atmosphere was celebratory as dozens of women dressed in various white dresses, veils and tiaras marched to the sounds of trumpeters playing wedding songs.

One woman called the event "unique" and one that "emphasizes the importance of the family in our society". Similar events also take place in Russia. Apparently the traditional marriage stance is not only valued among blushing brides and beauty queens.

Later this month, Romania's Parliament is set to vote on a law that would specify marriage is a union between a man and a woman, and refuse to recognize same-sex marriages or civil partnerships from other countries.

The Associated Press report, “Romania drafts legislation to outlaw gay marriage”, quotes Daniel Buda, a deputy for the ruling Democratic Liberal Party: "The law was needed because Romania is a Christian country with "Christian morals." Some 85 percent of Romanians belong to the influential Orthodox Church."

Longest marriage for a living couple

BROWNSVILLE, NC, USA -- Herbert and Zelmyra Fisherhave been married for more than 84 years-setting the world record for the Longest marriage for a living couple.   They watch TV together but she leaves when the baseball game comes on. Herbert was born June 10, 1905. His hearing is going but his mind is sharp. Zelmyra was born Dec. 10, 1907. She uses a walker to get around the house and yard. The two of them can still give their reasons for marrying on May 13, 1924.    “He was not mean; he was not a fighter,” Zelmrya said. “He was quiet and kind. He was not much to look at but he was sweet.”The couple also have different religions but it did not tear them apart. He is a member of Pilgrim Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She is a member of Jones Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

The churches are in James City, where they both grew up. For all of their married life they have attended their own churches. They go their own ways on Sunday morning.

He looks towards her with love and concern. She looks towards him for strength and guidance. They also said that they both share the title of 'boss.'   They both agree if they had to do it again, they wouldn't change a thing. Perhaps it is just the respect they had for each other, and the interest in raising a family together. Zelmyra said Herbert was the only boyfriend she ever had. "We got along good," she said. "There was no trouble."

They both seem to possess a sense of fairplay. Between the rests, they enjoy their children, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Herbert worked as a mechanic at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in New Bern for 35 years. He took a bicycle, caught a cab or had a neighbour drive him to work. That hard work and savings put all five of the children through college.

Longest Wedding Dress Train World Record

And you thought your wedding dress was impressive.

Well this bride wasn't content with just looking pretty on her big day, instead she decided to tackle a world record as well as making that lifelong committment. Two birds, eh?

And it looks like she pulled it off (not the dress, that would take forever), as the lucky lady is claiming a new world record for world's biggest ever wedding dress, with a whopper complete with an astonishing three mile long train.

The dress is a tad impractical, we'd say (CEN)

Bride Jing Mei put the dress on display this week ahead of the ceremony with groom Ye Yuan as she posed for the official pre-wedding photos in a park in Chengdu, a city in south-western China's Sichuan province.

The train - so long it had to be spread out over an entire field - had its own team of security guards to make sure it did not get snagged as Mei posed for the snaps. The dress had its own security guards during the photoshoot (CEN)

Mei explained: "It started off as a mad idea and then we thought we could actually make it happen."

"We're both delighted with the result and we are definitely going to contact the Guinness World Records to get them to agree that this is an official record breaking dress."

She added: "It's incredibly dramatic and I feel so beautiful in it." Mei needed 40 bridesmaids to help her with the dress (CEN)

Long suffering husband-to-be Yuan revealed the dress cost £4,000 to create, nearly a year's wages for the average Chinese worker.

Other Wedding World Records

Oldest Bride

The oldest women to say “I do” was Minnie Munro, who was 102 years old when she married a man nearly 20 years her junior. Our take: Amazing story, and totally in line with a trends we’ve seen for a while now, couples are waiting until they’re a little older to get married, especially if they’re paying for their own wedding.

Oldest Bridesmaid

Next time you hear someone complain about being too old to be a bridesmaid, think about Edith Gulliford of the UK, who was a bridesmaid at the age of 105.Our take: Your bridesmaids should be the friends and family members closest to you. If one of those people happens to be a centegenarian, all the better!

The Longest Engagement Ever

Octavio Guillen and Adriana Martinez from Mexico certainly didn’t rush down the aisle. The pair married when they were both 82 years old, 67 years after getting engaged. Our take: An extended engagement certainly has its benefits — some of the best wedding suppliers book more than a year in advance, so you’d have lots of time to plan ahead. But when an engagement turns from years to decades, it’s worth having a discussion about potential commitment issues.

Biggest Dog Wedding

Biggest Dog WeddingResidents of Littleton, Colorado, witnessed something in May 2007 that’s never been seen before or since: the union of 178 canine couples.

Our take: We love the idea of including a pet in your wedding, but hundreds of dogs make for pretty substantial postwedding cleanup. Stick to training your dog to walk your rings down the aisle.

Amy Ewing and Radio DJ Alex Simmons tied the knot with 230 friends at Rudding Park in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The couple's marriage was a Double Guinness World Record, beating 'Most ushers to one groom', previously at 47, and 'Most bridesmaids to one bride', which had been 126.

Both records have been lodged and approved by The Guinness Book of World Records. To qualify, law student Amy, 26 and groom Alex, 32, who won the £110,000 wedding in a competition, had to know all of their helpers and couldn't just have random guests.

Quite the gathering: There were 136 bridesmaids and 97 ushers at the wedding

Amy called in favours from girlfriends all over the world and TV presenter Alex's groomsmen included rugby players Danny Kirmond and Jamie Jones-Buchanan.

Every element of their dream day was donated by local companies - including 130 identical bridesmaid dresses worth £35,000 and suits worth £13,000.

Loved-up Amy and Alex, from Leeds, West Yorks, have four children between them from previous relationships and are expecting the first child of their own. They met at a charity event in summer 2014 and quickly fell in love, planning to marry at the end of 2015.

They saw a competition on Facebook run by bridal shop owner Abbi Lewis, who was looking to pull off a record-breaking wedding and wanted a couple to take part.Amy and Alex had planned a small wedding, but determined Abbi managed to blag everything for free and pulled together the massive event in just five months.

"I wouldn't say I had to convince Amy but I hadn't known her long. When we entered the competition we weren't even engaged, " said Alex.

"We knew we had to take the opportunity.

"There is no way with kids we would have been able to afford this ourselves.

"This had made our dreams come true.

"The fact we can have everyone there is amazing.

Previously, the most ushers stood at 47, a record set by Arulanantham Suresh Joachim at a wedding in September 2003 in Canada.

The most bridesmaids was set in November 2013 in Sri Lanka by Champika Shirani Siriwardana, with 126.
