One of the most overlooked aspects of event videography is audio, GOOD AUDIO.
Shooting in an uncontrolled environment is always a challenging prospect when trying to record clean, crisp audio.
Unfortunately, most inexperienced videographers relay on the on camera directional microphone for audio acquisition. This is absolutely one of the worst ways to get audio unless your sound source is no more than 3 or 4 feet away.
Churches and reception are extremely hostile toward clean audio due to sever speaker echo, loud DJ dance music with heavy bass, and the general chatter coming from of hundreds of guests.
There are only three ways to solve these problems; on person, off camera lav mic's, boom shotgun mic's, which are extremely directional, and digital recorders. Recorders are prefect for directly recoding audio from a DJ's soundboard. These will record all music being played and most importantly the speeches when directly plugged into the board.
