What Questions Should I Ask A Wedding Videographer?

Most couples, upon consulting with a potential videographer don't always know what important questions they should be asking their videographers.

This is extremely important, and can make the difference between a sloppy amateur video and one that is executed with talent and experience.

Here are some MUST ASK questions every couple should know before booking any videographer.

  1. How long have you been shooting weddings and events?
  2. Do you have an educational background in filmmaking/camera operation/editing/audio?
  3. How many weddings have you shot?
  4. Is your equipment up to date and regularly serviced?
  5. Do you have backups for all essential equipment?
  6. Do you provide a detailed and comprehensive, legally binding contract?
  7. How many people are on your team?
  8. Can we view a completed wedding DVD?
  9. Are there any hidden costs for number of locations, travel or gas?
  10. Do you Use a lavalier microphone for long distance audio recording?
  11. Do you use digital recorders to retrieve audio from the DJ or the halls audio system?

The best piece of advice I can give a couple looking for a videographer i to watch out for the weekend shoot. The guy who stopped off at best buy, bought a pro-sumer camera and now wants to make a quick buck shooting weddings. Unless the videographer in question admits he is just starting out and offers to shoot for low or no pay, RUN.

Signs of inexperience

  1. Only shoots with one camera
  2. Does not have a second shooter
  3. Does not have the proper equipment, Tripod, Lighting, Shotgun Mic, recorder, ECT.
  4. Does not use a lav mic or charges extra to use it.
  5. Does not shoot in HD
  6. Does not offer Blu-Ray
  7. Does not have a website
  8. Does not have recommendations
  9. Fails to ask for important details about your ceremony and or reception

*Avoid paying the total up front, request you only pay a deposit.
